I am Matt Dodson -
I am Matt Dodson. I am a Democratic Socialist and I am running for United States
Senate. We need strong people like me in Congress and I am a fighter. I am a USAF veteran. I hold a degree in History from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. I have lived in New Mexico for thirty-five years. I am a business owner and community organizer. I have ran for office several times in a very conservative area and I have knocked on thousands of doors. I have registered over a thousand people to vote, most under the age of thirty. I do not and will not take any corporate money. I have a strong sense of justice and of injustice. I am not afraid to take on the difficult fight. I consistently even take on “Democrats” who are failing to fight for the average working family. I have been fighting the establishment Democrats of the Democratic Party for over fifteen years now.

Matt with future voters.
NM State Election Law requires candidates running for some offices to obtain nominating petition signatures from voters registered within the district they are seeking. The number of signatures necessary varies. To sign a nominating petition, you must be a registered voter in the district the candidate is running in. You can only sign a petition for one candidate per contest.
The four main issues that I will non-stop fight for:
Get money out of politics
We need publicly funded elections and spending caps put on elections. Again, this will not occur overnight. Until then, we need to know who, or what in the case of corporations, is giving campaign donations or paying for ads on behalf of a candidate—yes, an end to dark money in politics.
Tax the rich
Who is worth more than $10,000 per day? No one. If someone works six days a week at $10,000 per day, that is a little over $3,000,000 per year. I would go back to FDR’s 92% tax rate on any money made over three million per year. I do not believe in billionaires. I support a wealth tax of 10% on anyone worth over say five hundred million (I am open to discussing what a maximum net worth should be). Nearly seventy trillion dollars has been transferred to the rich since Reagan (1980). It is time to redistribute this money back to Americans. These taxes will more than pay for universal healthcare, free college education, rebuilding our infrastructure, and so much more.
Universal Healthcare
Now. Not incrementally. To include eye, ear, and dental; and to include traditional healing for Native Americans. Since this will not occur instantly, I will push for anything that gets us closer to this such as giving all veterans access to VA healthcare. I will pay for this by finding the fraud, waste, and abuse in the military budget. There should be enough money found there to reopen or start building clinics and hospitals around the US, especially in rural areas.
Free college education
College educations are an investment. Whether for a trade or a doctorate, in the long run it pays for us to provide college educations for free. Very old stats of the GI Bill said that the college educations paid for by it returned 7 to 1 just in increased taxes paid from the increased wages earned by those who received a college degree through the GI Bill. This does not include the increased taxes paid by the businesses they started; the employees they hired; or the new ideas, inventions, and advances in technology that came from these educations. Clearly, free college more than pays for itself. I would cancel all student loan debt as the 1960’s law provides for.
